Ellington Indigos, Duke Ellington & His Orchestra- 2 track reel to reel tape,
1/7
Description

Ellington Indigos captures Duke Ellington and His Orchestra in a restrained, nocturnal mood. Rather than the band’s more extroverted swing showcases, this album dwells in tone color, space, and phrasing. The repertoire centers on indigo ballads and blues standards associated with Ellington’s after-hours sound world, letting the brass and reeds blend like velvet and smoke. Columbia’s early stereophonic reel editions are prized for their natural room feel and wide, effortless presentation, making this a perfect match of music and medium.

Tape Review
About Two Track Tapes

Two-track stereo reels grew out of early post-war tape, when consumer releases were mostly mono (often with a “flip the reel” second side). Once in-line two-track (half-track) became standard, big tracks at 7.5 ips made great jazz and classical sound incredibly real. The industry eventually moved to 4-track because it was cheaper and offered more playing time- learn more here.
