About Broadcast Tapes

FM broadcast reels were how stations from the late ’60s on kept stereo programming consistent—long music blocks on reel, with planned break windows for local ads, IDs, or quick live mic moments. They matter because a lot of these weren’t just casual “radio copies”—some came out of the same pro duplication world (including the Magtec orbit), so you’ll sometimes find reels that are surprisingly clean, well-leveled, and professionally documented. It’s tape history where engineering, music culture, and day-to-day broadcast workflow all collide. Learn more here.
