Morrison Hotel, The Doors- 4 track reel to reel tape, 3 3/4 IPS
1/7
Description

Vintage Elektra Ampex pre recorded reel of The Doors Morrison Hotel, catalog X 5007, duplicated by Ampex in Elk Grove Village, Illinois at 3¾ ips on ¼ inch four track stereo tape.

This is the gritty, back to basics Doors album: the bar room swagger of “Roadhouse Blues,” the nocturnal mood of “The Spy,” the groove of “Peace Frog,” and the rolling title suite “Morrison Hotel / Hard Rock Café.” On tape, the rhythm section feels weightier and the vocals sit a little closer, with that familiar Ampex duplication warmth.

Box and reel carry the original Elektra Ampex paper labels. “HEATH” is written in red marker on both label and box, adding a bit of library or archive character. The tape is on a clear Ampex reel with leader attached.

Tape Review

Lean, blues-forward Doors with punchy grooves and a live-in-studio feel. This reel captures the band’s return to guitar-driven swagger- “Roadhouse Blues,” “Peace Frog,” and deep cuts like “The Spy” all land with warmth and drive on tape. A strong, collector-friendly Elektra issue duplicated by Ampex.

Track highlights: Roadhouse Blues; Peace Frog; Waiting for the Sun; Maggie M’Gill.
